Genesis 11:6 KJV
And the Lord said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.
Another way to tell this verse is; God said, see these people are so united, they all speak one language therefore this thing they have set their minds to do nothing can stop them.
Now there are at least three lessons to pick from this verse.
God’s word is true.
God forbid: yea, let God be true, but every man a liar; as it is written, That thou mightest be justified in thy sayings, and mightest overcome when thou art judged. Rom 3:4 KJV
God observed and made a remark concerning a people at a point in time. God observed that when men spoke one language, there was nothing impossible for them. Meaning to say, these men understood one purpose. They were so persuaded that nothing will cause them to drift from their vision. They were solely driven by this one purpose; building a tower that reaches heaven.
Mostly the reason a group of people do not achieve set goals or desired results is because, members do not have the vision in the core of their hearts neither do they fully understand the vision of the group. These individuals who agreed to build the tower of Babel said, “..let us build us a city and a tower whose top may reach unto heaven…”
That was the language they spoke all day long, all they thought about was to achieve this one purpose. In all their daily activities this statement was their driving force. Note that their unity was not because they had one dialect because there is often disunity among people of the same tribe. Even twins and siblings disagree big time on issues. So it was not because they all spoke one dialect neither was it because they came from the same family. Rather their unity lay in their ability to comprehensively grasp the vision to the core.
It is therefore not enough to just know the vision of the group or organization to which you belong but also to have it at heart. That is when you fully understand what it is all about and you are solely driven by it.
Now let me bring your mind to something else. Within the human person there can be distortions. The individual can be torn apart within as a result of disunity. You are not together in yourself when your mouth does not agree with your heart and mind. When this happens you can’t achieve your vision. This is what happens in most unanswered prayers because your mouth does not agree with your heart on God’s word.
For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them. Mark 11:23-24
When your mind and heart are in agreement with what your mouth is saying based on God’s word, tremendous power is released because then, unity is achieved.
……..The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]. James 5:16 Amp
But where the mouth and heart are not saying same thing, doubt sets in. Doubt is when you boldly declare something by faith in God’s word at a point in time but you begin to say something contrary because looking at the prevailing circumstance and seeing the way things might be happening, it doesn’t seem like what you declared earlier will be made possible. This is what happened to Peter while he was walking on the water. He stepped on the water by faith on Christ’s command but after a while seeing the storm (prevailing circumstances) he began to doubt; he was afraid and immediately began to sink.
But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. Matthew 14:30 KJV
This is why the scripture says….
For we walk by faith, not by sight: 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV
Today we don’t need to physically walk on water, though we can. But we walk on water by taking daily steps on the word of God. Not by the dictates of the now.
Moreover, if a man would not contradict himself by the words he speaks there is nothing he has purposed to do that he won’t achieve. There must be unity in the words we speak; we must do away with doubt if we really want to achieve great things. In other words our language or choice of words throughout the period must consistently be in alignment with the purpose and vision God has given us. You shouldn’t say things that do not agree with the Word.
Our problem is that we tend to mix up our language, contradicting ourselves.
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
Proverbs 4:24 KJV
To have a froward tongue means to always be contrary or contradictory, speaking falsehood. In the sense that you speak the opposite of what God has said of you.
You are lying when you say “I can’t accomplish this task, I can’t do this or that”. Yes that is a lie.
Because God says…..you can do all things through Christ’s ability that is at work in you. Phil. 4:13 [paraphrased]
If you need healing from a disease you’ve been battling with, then speak consistently in line with the word of God regarding your case. God has provided for your healing.
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. 1 Peter 2:24 KJVS
When you begin to talk right in consonance with God’s word, then you’re in agreement with God to accomplish great things by power of the Spirit. God says about such a person: nothing (nothing on earth, no devil) can stop him.
